MOST UNFORTUNATE CONTROVERSY OF WASIM AKRAM, WAQAR YOUNIS, MUSHTAQ AHMAD AND AAQIB JAVED:
Cricket is well known as "Gentleman's Game" in this world. There were so many junctures in the history of cricket which proved that it's aa Gentleman' Game. But agilely a few evenments happened in the world of cricket that detained contours of controversy. Same sorrow-laden anecdote happened with team Pakistan in 1993 (March to May) when they were on the tour of West Indies. That series consisted on 3 Test Matches and 5 Odi internationals. Pakistani team was lead by Wasim Akram and West Indian team was lead by Richie Richardson.
On 8 April 1993, Pakistani players reached Grenada from Georgetown Guyana. 4 Pakistani players including skipper, went to the nearest coast from their hotel to relax and have a swim. Suddenly two men came and told them that they are from police department, and arrested Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmad and Aaqib Javed along with a female tourist and a local person on the charge of the possession of controlled drug. Police commissioner Nestor Ogilvie said that they'll discuss all the accusations in the court and till then Pakistani players will remain under arrest. Government of Grenada and International Cricket Council refused to give any kind of relief for Pakistani players. Then Grenada Cricket Association send a lawyer, QC Derek Knight, for the legel help of players. Derek Knight defended them and said that the evidence against Pakistani players was very flimsy and they had no charge to answer. He furnished bail of EC$1.000 (approximately US$400) for each those arrested. Pakistani players got exhausted and heartbroken on this incident and started thinking to underact the tour. At that time Pakistani leading cricket journalist Qamar Ahmad told them that if they'll go back without completing the tour then ICC could put life ban on them. This is why they had completed the tour with heavy hearts.
This was the most unfortunate controversy of Pakistan Cricket Team because the four Pakistanis were neither caught red-handed nor were any drugs found on their person.
